No-frills banh mi with miraculously cheap prices for SF!  You can't go wrong with freshly baked round baguettes, crisp veggies, heaps of meat, and a generous spread of pate. It's super hearty and filling. Depending on your hunger level, a single sandwich can easily be 1 or 2 meals. There's usually a line out the door, but the sweet aunties work quite fast, so the wait has never been too long. The quality and value are absolutely worth the trek through the Tenderloin! Just don't forget to bring cash :)

Read the reviews and decided to take a morning walk to grab breakfast. Do not let the outdated messy mom and pop shop appearance stop you. The cleanliness and organization of the shop is offsetting, but the sandwich was delicious! How do they stay in business with these kinds of PRICES!? The walk paid off, these sandwiches are filled! Half for breakfast is all I could eat. Lots of pate, lots of meat, and the bread was soft and seemed fresh. I have had bad Banh Mis, and this not one of them. In a city where I'd expect a sandwich to be $15, it was not just a bang for buck but it was a delight! I do recommend. Down side would be that I wished the sandwich wasn't so stacked with protein so they could fit a little more pickled veggies.

Small local banh mi shop with a short menu but surely mean they know how to make these sandwiches well. Shared the thit cha pate (think it is roast pork and steam pork and pate) with my friend, definitely half portion is good for breakfast. It is really flavourful, a little bit more spicy from the jalapeño than I expected but it adds a nice kick. The Vietnamese coffee is really good too. Great prices as well!

Affordable banh mi with a perfectly crispy baguette exterior and soft bread inside. cash only, there can be a line but it usually moves quickly. Adding pate to the banh mi is perfection!

Prices went up 50 cents. This is a cash only establishment in not the favorable area of town. No table service. Just 3 Vietnamese ladies churning out banh mi sandwiches in record speed. The sandwiches used to be $5. They are $5.50 now. Make sure you ask for extra jalapeños and carrots. I ordered the sui Mai or meatball sandwich. Make sure to ask them to slice the sandwich. This is perhaps the best deal in town. I have cravings for these sandwiches. And I share one sandwich with my hubby! It's a decent size.

BEST banh mi in the city. This place is worth the trek to the Tenderloin. There's always a small line out the door, but the wait is never too long. The employees are always friendly and fast with service. When I was there, they easily took 6 people's orders at once and got us all out in 10 minutes max. I got the xiu mai (pork meatball) banh mi. The meat is so flavorful -- I've gotten the roast pork before as well, and I like the meatball one better for its flavor. The pickled carrots are perfectly sour, and the jalapeños are not overwhelming. It's also a hefty sandwich, they for sure do not skimp out on portions. Saigon Sandwich is a quintessential SF gem. Though it's not flashy or super polished on the inside, it consistently has delicious food. Even the environment of people waiting for their food is ao friendly, it's so clear that this place is a community-beloved shop. It is cash only, but for $5.50 a sandwich, it's hard to find a better deal in the city. An absolute must-try!

When friends were visiting in the city, I had to take them to the infamous Saigon Sandwich for some quick and affordable banh mi sandwiches! First thing I noticed on this trip here was that they raised their prices. It's now $5.50 for their regular sandwiches and $7 for the combo/specials. While it's only a slight increase, they don't skimp on the amount of meat n veggies they pack into these sandwiches. Still the best value and quality I've found at that price point. Most place would charge close to double in 2024. All their banh mi come on a Seimfried roll, and honestly the past couple of times I've come they've been kinda hard. Not sure if they are toasting them too long when you order but some parts of the roll are tougher to bite. Overall, I switch between the pork and chicken. I usually order both, and split halves with someone so I can get both flavors. While it's a great sandwich, I elevate it with some kewpie mayo to add an extra layer of creaminess. Lastly, just a reminder it's still CASH only

I came to Saigon Sandwich on a Thursday lunchtime and it was clear that the lunch rush was on. I was second in line but a line quickly formed around me as the ladies behind the counter worked furiously to get the buns toasted. I got two roast chicken and roast pork banh mi's, for a whopping total...$22. The store may be in a rough location and they may only take cash, but this is the equivalent to the $1 pizza in NYC that is all but gone - you would be hard pressed to find banh mi for this price anymore. And this is after it seems they've raised the price from the edited menu The banh mi itself - packed tightly with fresh cilantro, pickled carrots, jalapeno, and roast pork with great flavor. For $5.50! I offered a sandwich to my doorman, he wanted to refuse till I told him it was from Saigon Sandwich which he said "oh that's the good stuff", which is a vote of confidence from me

Saigon Sandwich is truly a hole in the wall hidden gem! I ordered a chicken banh mi here and it was honestly one of the best banh mi's I've ever had. The flavors of everything were amazing and the ratio of meat to veggies to bread was on point. All this deliciousness was only $5 too (cash only though). The sandwich is also decently sized and could easily be shared between 2 people. Truly one of the best bangs for your buck in SF. The store itself is a no frills place and a spot where you just order your food, get it, and go. The store doesn't look the cleanest and the area around it is honestly a bit sketchy. Despite this, I'd come back and would highly recommend it because of how good the food is.
